Part #4 of our chat with @MelindaCurtisAuthor @mrsfilm @nancy some questions for you here! LUV: Tell us more about your book-to-movie experience. Melinda: I got the “call” via email from my editor at Harlequin that Dandelion Wishes was going to be made into a TV movie. I looked at the email at four in the morning and immediately woke up my husband, whose reply was, “Is this a joke?” He had a better response later when he was fully awake. But because he was uncertain, I sent my agent a missive asking her the same thing, “Is this real?” I’m not sure how the book came to Beth and Nancy (deets, please) but I do recall someone mentioning the fact that it was a winery book being part of the decision. This could totally be false. LOL. Things were happening fast. This was May, I think. I was given a script to read and respond to. Filming was set to start very soon. And then…filming was postponed. Again, I could be completely wrong about this (glances once more to Beth and Nancy) but I believe it was a combination of factors. The first was that they wanted the Toronto vineyard to look full and lush. The second was that Amber Marshall signed on and wanted to put her imprint on the role. My husband and I arrived for location filming in October. Our heads were spinning as people introduced themselves – so many people work behind the scenes doing everything from making sure the props were always in the same place for each shot to hair and wardrobe being consistent to making sure to record a change to dialogue. On and on. And that didn’t even include the staff you’d expect on set, like the director, lighting crew, camera personnel, etc. We had a great two days on set. There might have been cake for someone’s birthday. Everything is better with cake!
