⭐️ Adaptation Review ⭐ The Time Traveler’s Wife Author: Audrey Niffenegger Book Rating ⭐️⭐⭐️✨ Movie Rating ⭐️⭐⭐️⭐️ TV Rating ⭐⭐️✨ At my last IRL book club meeting we discussed This Time Tomorrow and The Sea Of Tranquility. Time Traveler’s Wife came up, and I shamefully raised my hand and said I hadn’t read it so I had to read it. Sooo …. I have some thoughts. This book came out in 2013 so I have no idea what the initial reaction was. I find the storyline and overall romance a bit creepy. I just have a tough time getting past a 30 year-old man chillin’ with a 6 year-old. Of course young Claire will develop a crush on Henry. The poor girl was locked away in the country with what appeared to be no friends. PLUS when Henry is constantly telling Claire her life is going to turn out one way it removes her agency. The whole predeterminism sucks out the romance for me. I found it very confusing, you have a choice, but this is what you choose so just go with it. Claire is a bit of a puppet to Henry’s whim. I know there is a lot of division on how people feel about the movie vs. the book vs, the TV series. Here are my thoughts: 🎥 Movie The tone of the movie is much darker than the book and series. I liked the moody tone, that’s where the drama is! So much of the book is cut for time, but I think they picked the right scenes to pull out. The casting!! Rachel McAdams can pull off the vulnerability and strength of Claire. 📺 TV The series was canceled after Season 1 so they got as far as the wedding. They focused a lot on young Claire and expanded on the other side character’s stories, which I did enjoy. Ugh, the way they wrote Claire drove me nuts. She was jealous, aggressive and hyper sexual. It just felt all wrong to me. There’s a lot of Theo James’ ass in this. I swear that was the whole reason they made this show, lol! I didn’t feel any romance. The editing felt choppy and the constant cutting between times didn’t allow for the connection to build IMO. #QOTD - Have you read or watched it? What do you think?
