Part #3 of our chat with @Kelly Farmer (she/her) LUV: Are you part of an author community? If yes, how did you find it and what makes it valuable to you? Kelly: I’m fortunate to be in a few awesome writing communities. My main group is the Chicago-North Romance Writers. I found them many years ago by chance, because they happened to be the romance writers group in my area. Writing is such a solitary endeavor. It’s so important to find like-minded people who get where you’re coming from. Giving and receiving support and hearing what others are going through makes you feel less alone. I was so glad to see I wasn’t the only person arguing with the voices in my head! Their keen eyes on many manuscripts over the years made each one stronger. I still learn just as much critiquing someone else’s work as having my own critiqued. From that group, a number of us started getting together at a Panera on Sunday nights. We are now known as the Panera Supper Club. These insightful authors are good friends, brainstorming partners, manuscript swappers, cheerleaders, and consolers when things get rough. It’s amazing how I can be totally stuck in a manuscript, and within minutes, they’ll have the perfect solution to get me energized and excited to write.
