Part #2 of our chat with @carlaluna! LUV: What is the best thing about being a romance writer? What is most challenging about being a romance writer? Carla: I love writing stories that bring joy to people’s lives. In romance, no matter how much the main characters struggle throughout the course of the book, they’re guaranteed a happy ending. When the world feels like too much to handle, curling up with a romance novel—whether it’s sweet, steamy, or extra-spicy—provides the perfect escape. As far as challenges go, it’s not easy getting respect for a genre that a lot of people still dismiss as trash or mindless fluff. Some still equate romance with the “bodice rippers” of the 1970s and 1980s even though the genre has come a long way since then. Or they assume that, because of the guaranteed HEA, romance is formulaic and predictable. To which I say, even if you know the couple is going to end up together, it’s the journey that makes the story so much fun.
