This week LUV is spotlighting author @carlaluna . Carla writes contemporary romance with a dollop of humor and a pinch of spice. In 2021, she published the Blackwood Cellars Series, a trio of romantic comedies set at three distinct destination weddings featuring the Blackwood family, owners of a prosperous wine empire. LUV: What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your career? Carla: When I set out to be an author, one thing I didn’t realize was that most writers don’t publish their first books. Or their second. Or even their third. Although I wrote a lot of short stories in high school and college, my first real novel was an epic fantasy that clocked in at about 800 pages. Despite the unwieldly world count, I was convinced it was a masterpiece, deserving of publication! Of course, no one was interested in it, and I now consider it a “practice book.” I wrote three more novels before writing and publishing Blue Hawaiian, the first book in the Blackwood Cellars Series. Along the way, I learned some valuable lessons, such as how to craft a compelling story and how to use feedback to strengthen my writing.
