Happy Hanukkah šŸ•Ž Oy vey verklempt alert! āļø Book Review ā The Matzah Ball Author: Jean Meltzer Rating āļøāļøāā The Matzah Ball is the perfect feel-good holiday rom-com. Iā€™m seriously kvelling because this book was so good! I grew up and worked with a lot of Jewish people so I was very familiar with Shabbat and Hanukkah, but if you arenā€™t, Meltzer provides a brief overview of both traditions. The book follows the enemies to friends trope and alternates between 30 somethings Rachel and Jacob. Rachel is the daughter of a world-famous rabbi. She has a secret, sheā€™s obsessed with Christmas, so much so that she writes Christmas romance novels under a pen name. Her and Jacob were summer camp first loves, but after a series of prank wars, their romance quickly turned to bupkis. Jacob is now a successful party planner and is determined to create the most elaborate Hanukkah event NYC has ever seen. Rachelā€™s publisher wants her to be more authentic, and says if she doesnā€™t write a Hanukkah romance her career is over. Will Rachel come out of the Christmas closet? Jacobā€™s event could be the holiday light she desperately needs for both her career and her love life. Meltzer delivers such a beautiful, heartwarming romance chock full of hilarity. Thereā€™s no steam in this romance so donā€™t expect any hot noodles, but the love story is so joyous it will silence any kvetching. Meltzerā€™s writing is cinematic and I couldnā€™t help casting this film as I read. If I went older with the cast I would choose Jewish actors, Andrew Garfield and Mila Kunis, if I went younger I would pick Dave Franco and Lily Collins. We definitely need some more diverse holiday stories! #QOTD - Do you have a favourite holiday book or movie? #jeanmeltzer #thematzahball
