Dabney Grinnan, the publisher of All About Romance is our executive of the week! Over the next 5 days she will be sharing info about the site and her thoughts on the romance industry. LUV: Tell us about All About Romance. How did it start and how did you get involved? Dabney: All About Romance has been around since the late 1990s. Laurie Gold founded it. What she did was create a venue for romance readers to be able to discuss romance and a platform for romance reviewing. Laurie was a data person and created a database that is still our most popular feature and accessed by millions of people each year. You can go on and pick any combination of factors to find the book you want to read. I was a devoted romance reader in middle school and junior high. I got too busy in high school and in college it would have been too embarrassing being seen reading a romance. I did not read romance again until the Kindle. Amazon hooked people on their hardware by offering a weekly free book. For me, it was Karen Marie Moning’s DARKFEVER. Woosh. I was hooked. I read it while on vacation with my family did not want anyone to bother me. I wanted to read more romances. I really liked historical romances so I did an internet search. AAR (allaboutromance.com) appeared. I used the AAR search inputting Historical Romance, review grade A or higher and sexy. That’s how I started reading Madeleine Hunter, Sherry Thomas and more. When AAR put out a call for reviewers I volunteered. I became publisher in 2015.
