Going further down the classic movie hole. I watched The Graduate from 1967. An OG May-December romance. What I find interesting the most about this film is the characterization. Ben is emotionally removed from himself and disconnected from his future life. His uncertainty of who he will become, through Mike Nichols genius directing, is literally drowning him. He needs Mrs. Robinson to fill this void of nothingness he feels. Whereas Mrs. Robinson is trying to connect with a version of her life not lived. A life where she got her Arts Degree and didn't have her daughter. The affair is about searching for a version of themselves they will never be.
