Pack it in your bag… ⭐️Book Review ⭐ The Guncle Abroad Author: Steven Rowley Book Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is the sequel to the 2021 hit, Guncle. Steven Rowley’s writing is bottled sunshine so I was deeply disappointed with last year’s downer The Celebrants. His sassy gay uncle, Patrick, is back and now with a romance! In book one, Patrick is looking after his young niece and nephew in Palm Springs after their mother died. This book picks up 5 years later and as the titles alludes, abroad! Patrick’s brother, Greg, is remarrying and the kids, now adolescents, are not having it. Patrick spends a month with them traveling through Europe hilariously educating the duo on love. The crew meets up with Greg and his Italian fiancee and her family. Enter the Launt! Aka the lesbian aunt, who is a genius addition to the literary family. Not only do we get culture clashes in this book we are also treated to an aunt/uncle gay/lesbian showdown! You can’t help LOL at these two. My only critic with this book is that it doesn’t know quite how to end itself. The wedding IMO should’ve been it, but it felt like there were a few too many epilogues. AND Patrick borders on unlikeable at times. He is always doing the most, but in Europe he took into another gear. With that being said, Rowley is skilled at delivering the jokes while giving you the feels. There is some beautiful messaging about love, loss and acceptance. It’s a perfect summer read! #QOTD - Have you been to Italy?
