This masterpiece was sent to me and my film production company “Wild-Maple Films” Shall we Produce it together? I LUV the story!! (And some of my son’s relatives are Jewish and live in Mexico!…. So I totally get it!) *********** Dear Liz Taylor, I am excited to share my 95-page feature screenplay, NOT SO KOSHER WEDDING – a romantic comedy, based on the true story of our Jewish-Mexican family’s union. As an optioned screenwriter and produced songwriter (my first feature film ‘Little by Little’ is currently in development by production companies in the U.S. and Australia), I co-wrote this new screenplay with my son Leonard and Toby Osborne, the screenwriter of multiple movies. Below is the logline and a brief synopsis of the script for your consideration: A young Jewish college grad faces pressure from his parents to marry a “nice Jewish girl” but takes a chance on love when he proposes to a sweet Mexican senorita from east L.A. Synopsis: The moment that Lenny Rosenthal graduates and secures a job at a top accounting firm, his loving parents Saul and Irene are wondering when he’ll take the next step of finding a wife and giving them grandchildren. However, after a string of disastrous Shabbat dates with Jewish girls who are incompatible with him, Lenny wants to see what else is out there. On a dating app, Lenny gets connected with the lovely Lupe, a Mexican girl who is looking for a nice and genuine man. They set up a first date and are swept away in a whirlwind of love, despite being opposites and knowing little about each other’s cultures. Over the weeks and months ahead, Lenny and Lupe share their different worlds – from Lenny being taught how to salsa dance and Lupe learning how to make matzoh ball soup, to Lenny taking Spanish classes and Lupe getting a crash-course in Yiddish. With Irene desperate to hear the patter of the feet of grandchildren, she and Saul get onboard with Lenny proposing to Lupe with Bubbie’s ring that survived the war as long as the wedding will be under a ‘Chuppah’ canopy. Meanwhile, Lenny meets Lupe’s hard-working parents Pedro and Rita at the liquor store that they own in a tough neighborhood, in east L.A., and they give their blessing – as long as the wedding will be held at the Catholic church. Hearing the good news, Lupe’s brother Chewy, a member of a local gang, is excited to take Lenny on a bachelor night to remember – and it’s a sight to see, with Lenny and his skinny Jewish friends partying with Chewy’s Latino crew. Despite their families’ support, Lupe’s ex-boyfriend Flacco has just got out of jail and still holds a flame for her. While Lenny feels insecure that he’s nothing like Flacco – who is muscular and intimidating, and a member of the gang – Lupe reminds him that she doesn’t want to marry a man like that. She chose Lenny because he’s sweet and honest. As their wedding day approaches, the clash of cultures becomes apparent, but also adds a unique twist on their celebrations with Rabbi Levy and Father Hernandez teaming up and sharing duties at the ceremony. Yet, their Jewish-Mexican marriage faces a final hurdle as Flacco turns up at the church to drunkenly make an objection, but Lenny faces him down and Chewy turfs the former gang-member out. Following a wild night with their friends and family at the reception, Lenny and Lupe head to Las Vegas for their honeymoon. But when Saul and Irene pop up in their suite, the newlyweds decide to try their luck in the casino. At the Craps table, where Lenny has applied his accounting skills to rack up a considerable amount of chips, they meet Mike, an unscrupulous thief who robs them of their winnings – which was enough to pay for the deposit on a new home. Thankfully, the cavalry – led by Chewy with his crew – arrives in the nick of time to catch Mike and make him cough up the stolen money, to deliver a happy ending for our happy couple. The completed script is available for review, upon request. We hope you’ll check it out. Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you, Sincerely, Scott Blumenthal WGA # 1369307 scottblumenthal7@gmail.com
