This week LUV is spotlighting award-winning author @PatriciaWFischerauthor 💕 LUV: Before writing romance you were a percussionist, actress, singer, waitress, bartender, pre-cook, trauma nurse and journalist. How have these varied careers prepared you as a novelist? Patricia: It’s interesting that you listed my many jobs over the years because until you did, I didn’t see any common thread. A lot of these were out of survival and to pay bills, but the underlying theme is to adjust quickly and be ready for anything. Also, any creative endeavor or customer service-focused job exposes you to sometimes cruel criticism. There have been more times than I can recall where I thought a scene was going to be laid out one way and the character says, “Nope. Let’s go over here for a bit.” I learned instead of fighting that, to let that thread weave itself and see if it fits. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. Whether it’s editors, writing critique groups, or reviewers, it’s essential to know how to approach both productive and pessimistic criticism. I certainly got A LOT of that while a nurse.
