Part #4 of our interview with our lovely acting/producing couple @Ann Pirvu and @Christopher_Giroux LUV: When did you know you wanted to be a content creator? How did you embark on your journey to get to where you are today? Do you have any suggestions for others who want to enter the romance world of content creation? A: My family and I moved to Canada, from Romania, when I was 12 years old. I learned how to speak English from watching cartoons on Cartoon Network with my brother, and I remember my dad also got us a camcorder to document our journey. That was literally it! That’s how I found myself falling in love with the power of the visual medium. I started making little films, roping in family and friends to help me with the process, and I eventually made my first feature in high school, entered it in a variety of international film festivals, and that’s what ultimately brought me to Toronto. Having such an impactful life change, so early on in my life, gave me the courage and foresight to believe that anything is possible and you have to pursue what you love to the utmost. C: I’ve always wanted to make movies as far back as I remember. I would shoot short films with friends, and watch movies around the clock. Over the years my passion for filmmaking and storytelling has only grown. Whether it’s a short film with friends or a feature film for TV --- the mindset, craft, sense of creation, teamwork and passion is the driving force of what makes this industry so special. A: Christopher & I think of romance content creation in the same way as any other type of good storytelling: you have to understand the tone and elements of the genre —and strive to tell good stories. Period. So for anyone starting out, understanding the scope of what film production entails, how it is the ultimate team sport and every department must cohesively collaborate to serve the final product, is vital. Get on set, in any capacity — be a sponge and find your passion (or if you already know it, learn the ins and outs of that job, whether technical or creative in nature). Don’t wait for anyone to give you an opportunity, create your own opportunities and… make cool things happen! Just start :) today.
