Part #3 of our interview with actors/producers @Ann Pirvu and @Christopher_Giroux LUV: What is the one thing you wish you had known when you started your career and what advice do you have for others starting their careers in film and television, specifically in the romance community? A: Such a great question, because when you first start anything — you don’t know what you don’t know hahaha, which is nice in some aspects because you are fresh and fearless. You tend to take more risks without inhibitions. But one of the most important pieces of advice that’s stayed with me is probably the phrase “this too shall pass.” When you’re booking and you’re at the top of your game— guess what, this too shall pass. In the process of building your career, there will be many auditions you won’t book, many times you won’t get ANY feedback and have to rely on trusting your efforts, as a performer, are enough. There will be countless instances when you will hear the word “no” and feel like giving up — but guess what, this too shall pass! This goes for all creative endeavours — even casting directors, directors and producers “audition” for jobs. Isn’t that a freeing thing to know, that there will be peaks and valleys and that’s perfectly normal, and all you really have to do — just like in all aspects of life, is keep showing up. Keep your passion for the craft at the forefront of it all. Keep believing in yourself regardless of other people’s support or approval. You can truly do anything you set your mind to, so be kind to yourself and take small steps towards your bigger goals, every day. C: I have so much gratitude as I have been in this industry since I was 15. I had the privilege to have amazing mentors early on, who encouraged me and taught me a number of invaluable lessons. I feel like I’ve sort of grown up in this industry… So the advice I give is-- you need to love it to start it, be passionate about it to continue it, and you need to be dedicated to it to thrive in it. This industry is a journey – but a well worthwhile one!
