Part #2 of our chat with author @rachellepaigebooks LUV: How have your degrees in Art History affected your writing? What did you love most about studying Art History? Is there a unique fact that you plan to include in an upcoming novel? Rachelle: The biggest lesson I learned from Art History that has affected my writing is to finish what you are doing before moving on. I learned this while pursuing my master’s degree and sitting in the library at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. I wrote my dissertation on the artist David Wilkie and had the opportunity to read his personal journals. My advisor told me that no matter how tired I was during a study session, to be sure to properly document exactly what I was reading before finishing for the day because I would find my spot again. Oh, that was true! After the first time it happened, I lost a day to trying to backtrack and find my place, I always finished with full documentation. In writing and editing, I finish a scene, a chapter, a thought before moving on. After I graduated, I worked as a specialist in Furniture and Decorative Arts at an auction house. I love to sneak in different aspects of my past job and education into every series I’ve written. In Finders Keepers, Cowboy, the female main character reaches out to an auction house for help with the discovery, and an expert comes to the ranch.
