This week LUV's spotlighting author Lauren D.M. Smith! LUV: You published your first novel with Harlequin’s So You Think You Can Write program. Can you tell us about this experience? How did you learn about it? What was valuable? Lauren: At the time, I was very active on Wattpad, and the contest was done in conjunction with them. So when I heard about it, I thought I’d enter. Though I’d never actually written a romance novel. I’d often had romantic subplots, but I’ve always primarily written fantasy in varying flavours. But I thought, hey, the worst that can happen is I don’t make it, so why not give it a go. No one I think was more surprised than me when I won, ha ha. The So You Think You Can Write contest was overall a wonderful experience, where I got to meet and talk with other writers and readers which was great. Making those connections and finding like-minded people is always great, not just for being able to share things, but to find others who may eventually become a part of your network, critique partner, or even friend.
