This week LUV is spotlighting Nicole Helm who's the national bestselling author of fast-paced romantic suspense for Harlequin Intrigue. LUV: You write many different streams of editorial including small town romance, suspense and paranormal. Why? What are the challenges and benefits? Nicole: My motivation for doing a variety of things lies first and foremost with the fact that it’s fun. Every time I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and tried a new stream of editorial, I’ve learned something invaluable from the experience, and found myself feeling more excited to sit down to write every day. I think the more you challenge yourself to be creative in different ways, the more creative you end up being. Writing and creativity are like a muscle. The more you use them, the stronger they get. As a prolific author, I also find doing different things helps keep me excited about all the books I’m writing, rather than feel like I’m stuck in a rut doing the same thing over and over. Suspense, paranormal, single title, category, they all require me to use different parts of my “writing brain,” and I feel like that keeps me sharp and excited to keep writing.
