Part #4 of our chat with author @nikkialamersauthor LUV: Did working at “the happiest place on earth” provide any inspiration? Nikki: Absolutely. For starters, I began my career at Walt Disney World on their college program, working, living, and learning with my peers from all over the world. I worked at Splash Mountain in the Magic Kingdom, went to class at Disney University and lived with five roommates from around the country. The program ended with an epic ball. The people, friendships, and experiences of doing a program like that is something that will be forever unforgettable. Every day I had the opportunity to create, witness and be a part of thousands of stories, making an impact. As well, when you put over ten-thousand college students in one apartment complex, the fireworks that ensue can prompt a lifetime of new books. After graduating college in Wisconsin, I moved back to Florida and became a trainer before getting a job as a guest services manager in the parks, but still continued to write for myself. Every day, I watched stories unfold, at the same time, I became a part of so many stories, the work constantly rewarding. I loved the opportunity to be able to put a smile on someone’s face as they made forever memories of their own. My own love story began when I met my husband while working at Disney. He had a job offer in New York, so a few months after he proposed, we moved to the northeast. But the stories, cultures, people, places, and way of life provided constant inspiration. While working there, people and worlds came to you, giving me endless springboards for my creativity. The things I was a part of and the relationships I built while there gave me a lifetime of memories, experiences, friendships, love and, of course, material for my stories. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
