Part #3 of our chat with author @nikkialamersauthor LUV: Which of your novels do you wish a producer would adapt onto the screen? Nikki: Just one? Well, I may not answer this exactly as you’re looking for, but I would love to see Dreams Lost & Found and Finding Home adapted into a screenplay. I’ve actually started working on the adaptation myself. I think Samantha’s story of adoption and discovering herself along with the friendships and her relationship with Brady would be an excellent movie. It has all the feels and the depth that holds you there, demanding to know what happens next. I can’t just stick with one though, so I’ll go from the big screen to the small screen. The Unforgettable Series is something I picture as a TV series. Each book could be a new season, with the characters going from one season to the next, giving us a deeper dive into different characters when it’s their turn to spread their wings. It would also give us the opportunity to be to see more of the stories as they’re happening. For example, some parts of the stories that were seen later as flashbacks, or maybe in a prologue could be woven into the story as it happens. I’ve enjoyed playing around with this as a script as well. I would love to see these stories come to life. LUV: Do you have any suggestions for others who want to write romance? Nikki: Write what you’re passionate about. Don’t skim over the important parts, whatever that may mean to you. If you have a great idea for a story, write it and don’t hold back. Romance stories that make an impact are the ones that make you feel, the ones that pull you into the moment, the ones that make you laugh, cry, love, and hate. Show me what’s happening inside your head, I want to see the scenes play out like you do. More than anything, this all connects back to the golden rule of fictional writing, show, don’t tell. If you aren’t sure how to do that, there are plenty of resources out there that can help you out or let me know and I would be happy to share more with you. Just write. Don’t let fear or doubt from others or from your own head get in your way. And when you’re done, keep in mind, everyone has numerous drafts of their work. Listen to those providing feedback and know when to jump on advice. There are readers out there for every story, so write for you.
