Part #2 of our chat with author @nikkialamersauthor LUV: When did you know you wanted to be a writer? Nikki: I’ve always wanted to be a writer. My family has always been the biggest supporters of anything I want to do, including my writing. I just didn’t know if I could write for a living, but I never could let it go no matter my direction. I remember receiving my first writing award in elementary school. Creating stories and giving them the ending I wanted is something I always craved. Although I have done all kinds of writing throughout the years, anything with the creative aspect has always been my favorite. In high school I did journalism, our yearbook winning national awards, in college I wrote scripts and educational materials for peer groups and journals, then I continued writing some in all those areas with my job as a health educator for a hospital and added grant writing as well. When it came down to it, I missed writing a fictional story, diving into the lives of characters, their relationships, what and who makes them who they are in their worlds and how all of that impacts their friendships and relationships. As I fell back into fiction with my writing, the process felt therapeutic, or like coming home. I knew I needed to incorporate fictional writing into my life somehow. LUV: How did you embark on the journey to publication? Nikki: As I mentioned above, I started writing at a very young age and have done all kinds of writing. Fictional stories with life, romance and a happily ever after, my passion. So, when I was pregnant with my second child, I decided it was time to get one of my works to an audience, but I wanted to make sure I had all the tools I would need to make it happen. I submitted one of my writing pieces to a college for creative writing where I could do all the work from home and I was accepted. After I graduated, with this additional degree, I began writing my first full-length novel, without any intention of making it a series. When I finished my book, I edited it several times myself, before I asked friends and family to also read it and provide feedback. My nerves skyrocketed the first time I sent out my manuscript to various publishing companies, but at the same time, I started researching the publishing process and eventually decided I wanted to understand the process myself and made the decision to self-publish.
