This week LUV's spotlighting award-winning author @nikkialamersauthor LUV: What is the best thing about being a romance writer? Nikki: One of the best things about being a romance writer is guaranteeing a happy ending. Life can have a lot of ups and downs and I write my stories the same way, incorporating a lot of life issues we all may encounter. Of course, we don’t all experience the same things nor are we impacted in the same way by those things, but that’s part of the fun in exploring relationships and how the characters react in different situations, depending on their own circumstances. But unlike in life, I have full control over the ending and I absolutely love that! Growing up I always loved to tell stories, whether I was writing them or reading them. I loved to be able to talk about the characters and what happened, like a book club for every book I fell in love with. Writing romance books gives me the chance to constantly talk about characters I feel have become part of my family and the stories that made them who they are now. I love going to book clubs, book fairs, bookstores, book events and being able to talk to readers, writers, and other book lovers makes it memorable and so much fun. If you’re ever interested in having me, let me know! I’ll be at Lust in Lowcountry in Charleston on October 7th, stop and see me if you’re there. LUV: What is the most challenging thing about being a romance writer? Nikki: The biggest challenge for me is definitely the marketing. I love talking about books, stories, and characters, which definitely includes my own, but as hard as it is for me to believe, not everyone likes to talk about books. Ha-ha. Talking about your own books takes on a different feeling and hesitation. I don’t want someone to ever feel pressured. Every book, every story, every author, every genre has an audience that will love and appreciate them and their books but finding them is the hard part. The writing community is one of the groups that helps to push me and keep me doing what I love. I’m incredibly grateful to the author community I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of. I’ve met several groups of men and women through the years, many of those authors, bloggers, and readers I now consider good friends. The support through these communities is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. So many are willing to help with all aspects of writing and publishing, including reading and sharing your book. I’m grateful for the friendships and to have others who understand me as a writer and a reader. Every one of them makes all the difference. Getting involved with them is the hardest step, but once you’re willing to reach out, you will be sure to find a place you feel comfortable.
