Part #2 of our chat with author @lizbasswriter LUV: How would you describe your voice, style or brand to new readers? You write under several pen names and several kinds of editorial. Why? Liz: I’ve written across many genres: contemporary and historical romance, women’s fiction, “chick lit,” and both historical and cozy mysteries. The constant in the books I write is probably humor. For as long as I can remember, my mind has naturally turned to what’s amusing about any situation. As a reader, I’m attracted to characters who look to the lighter side as a coping mechanism, and I love it when authors are able to put these humorous heroes and heroines in dramatic situations that make me root for them to find a happy ending. Publishers often want authors to use pen names so readers will identify their name with a certain type of story or to distinguish between a prolific author’s many series. Right now I’m writing humorous romance as Elizabeth Bass, while my cozy mysteries appear under my pen name Liz Ireland. I’ve also written historical mysteries under the name Liz Freeland. Keeping up with this split personality situation can be a headache for authors, especially when juggling multiple social media accounts, but it’s intended to help readers distinguish different genres.
