This week LUV is spotlighting Kait Ballenger, who's the award-winning author of the The Seven Range Shifter and Rogue Brotherhood paranormal romance series, where she weaves captivating tales of dark, sexy heroes and the independent women who bring them to their knees. LUV: What is the best thing about being a romance writer? What is the most challenging thing about being a romance writer? Kait: For me the best thing about being a romance writer is getting to do what I love. It doesn’t make it any less of a job, but I can’t imagine having to work a typical 9 to 5, or working in a field I wasn’t passionate about. I love that the kind of books and stories I fell in love with many years ago have become my life’s work. I have endless fun when I’m writing and brainstorming. Trying to come up with something fresh and fun for readers is always exciting to me, and each book brings something surprising and new. The most challenging part is keeping up the production pace that’s expected in the genre. I’m not a particularly fast writer, yet the industry expectation is that most romance authors produce two or more books a year. That’s much higher than any other genre. I do manage to keep pace, and so do most of the other authors I know, but there is a lot of pressure to produce and produce very quickly, which can feel like a lot sometimes. I do love that the readers are so voracious though.
