Part #2 of our interview with author Amy T. Matthews! LUV Can you tell us about your new book Someone Else’s Bucket List (releasing May 23rd!) described as a tear-jerking, heartwarming story of sisterly love? Amy: Someone Else’s Bucket List is a rom com, with some big ugly cries mixed in with the laughter. It’s the story of two sisters and one bucket list. Bree Boyd is an influencer who succumbs to incurable leukemia, leaving a mountain of medical debt and her unfinished bucket list. But, knowing she was saddling her family with debt, before her death Bree organized a sponsorship deal for her shy younger sister, Jodie, to complete her unfinished bucket list. Publicly. Which is Jodie’s worst nightmare, but also, to her surprise, the very thing that rescues her from overwhelming grief. This is a novel about the eternal power of sisterly love, and about finding reasons to live after you’ve fallen down the chasm of grief. The bucket list takes Jodie to Broadway and Antarctica, throws her into the arms of baseball players and billionaires, and leads her to the final item: love. The book was inspired by one of my closest friends from high school, who passed away a few years ago, leaving her family devastated. Knowing she was dying, she organized helium balloons at her funeral, so her children wouldn’t be scared, and left presents to be handed out at the first birthdays and Christmas after her death. She was a light of love in her final weeks, planning how to ease the grief of those she loved, and those who loved her, and I wanted to share that gift with the world. Death is inevitable for all of us, as is grief, and we are used to seeing it as a fearful, terrible thing. But my friend’s acts of love were powerful and defied the finality of her death, and she was the inspiration for Bree and Someone Else’s Bucket List.
