After this read you will be both 😭 and 🥵 Seriously Hoover, you know how to punch me right in my Dylan Thomas. If you haven’t read this before I would describe it as a YA Before Sunrise. The book begins on November 9th with 18 year-old Fallon saying goodbye to her father in an L.A. restaurant right before she’s set to move to NYC. 2 years ago, they were in a horrific fire, which left Fallon with severe scars. She’s moving to NYC to reboot her acting career. Her famous father doesn't believe she’s castable in her current condition. The two continue to argue and then 18 year-old Ben swoops in pretending to be her boyfriend, coming to her defense. The two hit it off and when Ben drops her off at the airport later that day they agree to meet on November 9th for the next 5 years until they are both 23 years-old. They block each other on social media and never exchange numbers. A lot gets in their way from being together, but the moments they do spend together will have the pages melting in your hands. AND… there’s mystery, drama, death, destruction!!! Hoover carefully layers storyline over storyline and then wraps them up in a dirty sheet. If I was to adapt this novel I would follow Richard Linklater’s filming approach to Boyhood, and cast two leads and film them each year over 5 years to tell the story. Being able to feel time is a very powerful storytelling tool and November 9 will have you appreciating your loved ones a little bit more. #QOTD - Ben says to Fallon “I can read you like a book, and right now I believe that book is full of erotica.” What genre describes your mood today?
