This week LUV's spotlighting Allie Therin, who's the bicultural author of the internationally acclaimed debut series, Magic in Manhattan LUV: What is the best thing about being a romance writer? What is the most challenging thing about being a romance writer? Allie: The best thing: the readers! Romance readers are smart, passionate, and enthusiastic. They know how to love books. As someone who is bicultural as well as intersectional in several ways—but whose marginalizations are all invisible—it’s sometimes been hard to know where I fit in with the world, and also to figure out how I can make other people feel like they belong. Becoming an author has let me connect with these smart, passionate and enthusiastic readers and it’s such a privilege to be able to share my stories and characters with them. I love being part of this community and want to help welcome more readers and writers into it. The most challenging thing: feeling like I’m the slowest writer in the world! There are so many amazing authors who are able to put out books frequently, and romance in particular often seems designed for the fastest and most productive writers. I have to continuously remind myself that it’s okay that my books take me longer to write—everyone is different, everyone has different things going on, and I can be my turtle self over here and that’s okay. #QOTD - Are you a fast or slower writer?
