Part #3 of our interview with author @kdcaseywrites LUV: If I am a new reader to you, what book or series should I start with? KD: Unwritten Rules is (currently) a three-book series that tracks players in the fictional Oakland Elephants baseball organization over the course of a decade or so. I planned the series such that the books can be read in any order. Because I like a complicated timeline, the second book in the series, FIRE SEASON, takes place before the first, UNWRITTEN RULES. The third book, DIAMOND RING, technically takes place before and after the other two, since it spans a decade. So really, take your pick! UNWRITTEN RULES is an angsty single-POV second chance romance that follows the relationship between catchers Zach Glasser and Eugenio Morales. Zach is selected as an all-star for the first time in his career and when he shows up to the game, who else is there but his ex-teammate… who’s also his ex-boyfriend. The book (which is non-linear) intercuts their initial meeting as teammates on the Oakland Elephants and what happens after they reunite. FIRE SEASON is technically a prequel to UNWRITTEN RULES. It tells the story of two of Zach’s teammates. Pitcher Reid Giordano gets traded to the Elephants after years on the fringes of professional baseball, in part driven by his alcohol use disorder. Now sober, he’s looking for a place to live, and is offered a room by Charlie Braxton, the star pitcher on his new team, who seems to have it all—except his life is privately falling apart. So… “they were roommates!” with a baseball twist. DIAMOND RING is an emotional m/m baseball romance that traces two players over a decade. It opens with two rookies—superstar pitcher Jake Fischer and less-heralded catcher Alex Angelides—being promoted to the big leagues on the same day. They grow closer as the season goes on…only to end up losing a championship together. Ten years later, they reunite for one last run at a championship, fanning old resentments—and new sparks—between them.
