This week LUV's spotlighting author, Christine d’Abo / Alyse Anders who's the author of the over sixty novels and novellas. LUV: Many people dream about being a writer. What is the one thing you wish you had known when you started your career? Christine: I’d always been a storyteller, even (maybe especially) when I was a kid. But sitting down and making the decision to try and start a career as an author is a very different thing from wanting to be a writer. Anyone can be a writer! Those words are personal, those stories are wonderful and fun. I encourage anyone who wants to be a writer to give yourself permission to sit down and write. I wish I’d better understood the difference between writing for myself and writing to get published. There were different considerations in the work, different standards. That the writing I did for myself was no less valuable than the writing I did targeting publishers. If I could go back and give myself some advice, it would be to be patient with not only the process, but with yourself. Learning how to navigate this very strange and ever-changing business takes time, and that eventually it will start to make sense. I’d also tell myself that there is a readership for those strange stories bouncing around in my head. Don’t let your doubts stop you from trying.
