I would love to pitch my #contemporary #Australian #Romance as a book to adapt for film. Synopsis: Connor Walsh, a thirty-year-old, career-orientated lawyer from London, is surprised to learn of his biological father Jack Deleney’s existence. When Jack tells him about his terminal cancer, Connor takes a year off work without pay so he can travel to the other end of the world – his birthplace, Fermosa Bay in Australia. He arrives expecting many things, but not a community welcoming him back with open arms. He was seven years old when his mother, Jane, packed their bags and returned to her hometown of London to start a new life. Years of living with his grandparents, then with his stepfather, Duncan Walsh, before moving to boarding school have obscured and erased his memory of living in the small coastal town of Fermosa Bay, with its crystal-blue cove and a hilly forest in the background. Over the next few weeks, Connor settles into a routine in Fermosa Bay, enjoying the slower pace of life and the close-knit community. He reconnects with his roots and the people he left behind as a child but also learns about the reasons his mother left Jack twenty-something years ago. His relationship with Jack deepens and for Christmas, Jack surprises Connor with a photo album with photos of his life in Fermosa. A treasure worth more than any money in the world. He is getting to know his ‘old’ friends again. Especially Emily. She has the biggest impact on Connor's visit. They were always close as children. He soon finds out that Emily still fosters a crush on him, and it doesn't take long before she has him reeling with emotions that he's tried so hard to suppress since his break-up with his ex-girlfriend, Harriett, the woman he contemplated marrying. When Jack dies in the new year, Connor's heart breaks. Not only over his father's death but for the brief time they had together. Looking back on his life, he realises coming to Fermosa brought him closer to his past and gave him a new future filled with love, family and a sense of belonging. Thank you ♥
