Part #4 of our chat with author Wendy Million. LUV: You write several miniseries including Bellerive Royals and Donaghy Brothers. What is the appeal? What are the positives and the challenges in writing connected stories? Wendy: The Donaghey brothers came about due to a desire to try romantic suspense. The first book, if you ever read it, ends with a HFN (happy for now), but there are still a lot of questions and threads left dangling. The two books that come after it help to tie up those ends while establishing a more fully realized world. As for the Bellerive Royals, each of those books explores a different couple and different tropes. Brent and Posey are mistaken identity, fake dating, and close proximity. Julia and Nick are former best friends to strangers to reconnecting, and that reconnection takes place in a one-bed luxury tent in the middle of Tanzania. Alex and Rory are soulmates whose love is forbidden due to her position as a pastry chef in the kitchen and her status as a Canadian. And Brice and Maren are enemies who think they completely despise each other until they’re forced to work together as members of a charity adventure race. Much like my first series, I liked the idea of trying to explore a complete world and, in this case, family. The biggest challenge is timeline and continuity. It’s so hard to keep track of dates and ages and months/days, etc.
