Part #3 of our interview with Kensington Publishing editor, Elizabeth Trout. LUV: Can you tell us about some recent books you’ve acquired and why you are excited about them. Elizabeth: IN THE EVENT OF LOVE by Courtney Kae – on sale now! This book is the perfect holiday read – it’s a cozy, whimsical wonderland. Courtney is a wonderful writer and she's crafted the story to feel like a giant hug and safe haven you can enjoy while sipping on a never ending mug of cocoa. Gorgeous winter and holiday imagery, as well as mouth watering baked goods! A queer rom com that combines everything people love about Hallmark-style holiday romances with laugh-out-loud humor and a steamy love story between two women. THE FIRST DATE PROPHECY by Kate and Danny Tamberelli (available now for pre-order, on sale 6/27/23) - One of the funniest and most joyful rom coms I’ve read in a long time – written by a real life wife-and-husband-team, inspired by their own meet cute and love story, no less! If you enjoy 90s pop culture, you may recognize co-author Danny Tamberelli as a 90s Nickelodeon star from THE ADVENTURES OF PETE AND PETE, ALL THAT, and FIGURE IT OUT. REASONABLE ADULTS by Robin Lefler (on sale Dec 13th in Canada, on sale in the US in October 2023) – The romance is playful, sexy, and heartfelt; the author’s voice is fresh, witty, and hilarious; and the story speaks to anyone who has ever had a time in their life when they have no idea where to go or what to do from here. So, basically, everyone! This debut novel also has one of my favorite characters of all time – Eric the goldendoodle, our heroine’s trusty sidekick. A HALF-BAKED MURDER by Emily George (available now for preorder, on sale 2/21/23) – This is technically a cozy mystery so a little outside of the wheelhouse of LUV, but there is a romance plotline in here and I had to mention it because it’s so much fun. It’s the first in a new cozy mystery series that's unlike anything else out there - a cannabis bakery themed cozy mystery! Twenty-eight-year-old Chloe Barnes is a classically trained pastry chef - who finds herself on the run from personal and professional disasters in Paris and back in her sleepy hometown, applying her Michelin-star skills to turn dry, bland pot brownies into gourmet treats. When a murder occurs, she must turn sleuth in order to help out her aunt.
