Yesterday my husband and I made a nine-hour round trip to deliver 882 kids' books to the Letcher County, Kentucky school district, which lost three entire school libraries in the catastrophic flooding in Kentucky's Appalachian region earlier this year. Collecting these books has been a labor of love for me because without exposure to school libraries growing up I'm not sure I would have become a novelist. If you have a few gently used books suitable for grades K - 8 and want to donate, you can send them to: Letcher County Board of Education, 752 Hazard Road, Whitesburg, KY 41858. Unrelated but fun: the second picture is of Loretta Lynn's homeplace in Butcher Holler (that's how you say and spell Hollow in Appalachia, and definitely how my Appalachian grandma said it 😊), which we took a slight detour to visit on the way back.
