Part #2 of our chat with author Heatherly Bell LUV: You write many different series like Men of Stone Ridge and Charming, Texas. What is the appeal to you as a writer? Some of these series you write for a traditional publisher like Harlequin and others you self-publish. Can you tell us why and explain the pros and cons? Heatherly: I adore writing category romance for Harlequin but sometimes I feel the need to write a longer book with secondary plots and characters. That’s what I self-publish at the moment, my longer and meatier small town western series with hot cowboys. There are so many pros of working with Harlequin vs. doing it all myself. There’s a lot of work involved with self-publishing because you basically own a small business. You’re the publisher and I have a great deal of respect for my publisher. I have to hire a graphic artist, editors, marketing, and do all my own promotion. And it’s exhausting. I much prefer the writing itself to wearing so many different hats but for now it’s what I’m doing.
