Part #3 of our chat with @Heather Novak, Author LUV: Which of your novels do you wish a producer would adapt onto the screen. Heather: Such a hard choice, because I think my romcoms would be really fun, but I’d have to say any book in the Love Me Dead series. Not only because I love the overarching mystery that spans the entire series, but because we desperately need more LGBTQ+ romances with disability rep on screen! Especially women-loving-women and bi/pan characters. The more people see something unfamiliar to them (like an LGBTQ+ couple or a person with an invisible disability), the more comfortable and understanding they become. Media is a great way to introduce people to new points of view they would otherwise be ignorant about. Had I seen a show with positive LGBTQ+ and disability rep when I was younger and trying to figure myself out, I wouldn’t have felt so lost and abnormal. If we’ve learned anything from the hours of watching Black and Brown kids (and adults!) react to Halle Bailey as the new Ariel, it’s that representation matters more than many people realize.
