Part #2 of our chat with @Heather Novak, Author LUV: Your illness has influenced your writing. Can you share with our readers? Heather: Advocating for chronic illness and disability awareness is such a huge part of my life, it’s hard to answer succinctly. The main takeaway is after a recent near-death experience in 2019, I dedicated myself to writing fun, page-turning LGBTQ+ books that also tackled chronic illness, mental health, and disabilities, without being trauma porn. I wanted to see myself in romcoms and paranormal adventures. Before the Love Me Dead series, I’d been afraid of making my books “too different”. When I returned to writing after my health stabilized, I overcame my fears and wrote Blood Thinners (Love Me Dead, book 1). I submitted to Tule Publishing and they sent me an offer 18 hours later for a multibook deal! The whole experience reaffirmed that I needed to listen to that voice in my gut that told me to keep writing diverse romance.
